Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is searching for a Computational Dynamics Scientist for our Calgary, AB office, to join our Machinery Analysis team. This role will be part-time (20 hours per week) to start, but may become permanent for the right candidate.

The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D or MSc in Computational Mechanics or a related field. He/She will become an expert in the theory, application and development of Wood Group's acoustical pulsation solvers used for compressors, pumps, and fluid flow in piping systems. The role will include theoretical and practical work in solver upgrades, refinements, research into new service areas or projects, presentations at conferences, client and staff training, and problem solving on consulting projects.

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Lead new development projects and support or modify existing simulation tools. This includes the following roles:
    • Participate with our software development team, and plan an active role in the development process, providing leadership on the theoretical aspects of the simulation code
    • Support with new development projects, upgrades and modifications to support user/client requirements
    • Testing, documentation, and change management
    • Training users on new features or changes
  • Conduct acoustical pulsation analyses for compressors and pumps. This will ensure that the individual understands our core services, software, and customer requirements. Becoming proficient with our design services is critical to supporting our simulation software
  • Some travel will be required to attend conferences, participate in research, network, and present articles or papers.

 


Skills / Qualifications

 

 

 

  • Master's Degree or Ph.D in one of the following fields:
    • Thermodynamics
    • Advanced fluid dynamics
    • Computational mechanics
  • Programming or development experience of large-scale engineering simulation software for industrial equipment or facilities
  • Core skills in Computational Mathematics is a must
  • FEA, with experience with ANSYS (or equivalent) would be an asset
  • C, C++ and C#, and Matlab would be an asset
  • Knowledge of compressor and/or pump systems would be an asset
  • Excellent communication (written and spoken) skills in English
  • Interest and desire to interface with the client, to understand their needs and explain our solutions
  • Excellent interpersonal and time management skills with the ability to interface with multi-disciplinary teams
  • Must be a Canadian citizen, or authorized to work lawfully in Canada, without sponsorship from Wood.
