Wood currently has an exciting opportunity for an Intermediate Electrical Engineer with a focus on Renewables. Reporting to the Renewables Engineering Program Manager, this position is remote but will require occasional travel to meet with clients or perform field visits.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare electrical design deliverables including one-line diagrams, general arrangements and sections for major PV or substation projects
  • Support the electrical design for Renewables and Utility projects such as solar, wind and BESS along with the HV component from concept/development through the Issued for Construction (IFC) and construction support phases
  • Ensure conformity and completeness of engineering packages against project requirements
  • Resolve problems, interpret engineering specifications, investigate design and field engineering difficulties
  • Support and prepare engineering specifications for major equipment such as inverters, transformers and racking systems
  • Prepare basic and higher-tier drawings and documentation in accordance with established conceptual design and scope
  • Perform checks of engineering deliverables, as required
  • Perform basic calculations and studies such as short circuits, relay settings, CT burden and arc flash
  • Prepare 2D drawings and technical specifications to an IFC level
  • Develop Bill of Materials and specifications for equipment
  • Conduct field visits while providing construction support on occasion at Client facilities and construction sites
  • Provide technical support during tendering, construction and commissioning
  • Interface with Clients for project scope development, design reviews, and progress meetings
  • Provide manhour estimates internally for prospective clients


Skills / Qualifications

  • University graduation with a major in electrical engineering.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience, preferably in the renewable energy field.
  • Proficient in interpreting and creating wiring diagrams, control logic diagrams, system descriptions, system calculations, 1-line and 3-line AC drawings, and AC & DC schematics.
  • Experience with any or all of the following would be considered an asset:
    • Familiarity with solar study software such as PVsyst.
    • Familiarity with major components of PV systems, including PV modules, combiner boxes, inverters, and AC/DC cabling.
    • Understanding of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) operations and design principles.
    • Working knowledge of electrical design software such as ETAP, SKM, and AGI32.
    • Experience using standard industry design tools like AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite.
    • Competence in cable tray design, single line diagrams, electrical schematics, power system grounding, general arrangements, lighting layouts, and general electrical design concepts.
    • Previous experience in protection and control systems for utility substations or generating stations.
  • Possessing a PE (Professional Engineer) designation would be considered an asset.
